Description
Denmark, Kingdom. Order of the Elephant, breast star, mid-19th century, by A. Michelsen of Copenhagen. Of smooth rays with fine rope-twist borders imitating silver-thread embroidery, the red-enamelled centre bearing a silver Latin cross within a heavy laurel wreath on a matted ground; the polished, plain reverse fitted with a double pin of flattened section and hallmarked "AM" for the maker. Measures 83 mm. Denmark's highest order, the Elephant is conferred only rarely and chiefly upon royalty and heads of state, making a star of this age exceptionally scarce. Excellent condition.
