Description

Denmark, Kingdom. Order of the Dannebrog, Grand Cross breast star, circa 1890, by A. Michelsen of Copenhagen, court jeweller and official maker of the Danish royal orders. A beautiful early star in silver, 18k gold and enamels, hallmarked "AM" for the maker. Measures 86 x 85.9 mm. Founded by King Christian V in 1671 and reformed in 1808 as a general order of merit, the Dannebrog is Denmark's second-highest order, conferred for distinguished civil and military service. Extremely fine condition.
