Description
France, Napoleonic Period. Royal and Military Order of St. Louis, circa 1800, in 18k gold and enamels. Weighs 15.14 grams. Measures 37 x 52 mm including the gold ring. Founded by King Louis XIV in 1693 to reward officers for distinguished service, it was the first French order open to those of non-noble birth. Extremely fine condition.
