Description
Netherlands, Kingdom. Order of Orange-Nassau, Commander, in case. A silver Maltese cross in white and blue enamels with ball finials and laurel wreaths between the arms, the obverse centre with a crowned Dutch lion on blue enamel within the motto "Je Maintiendrai," the reverse centre with the stylised "W" for Queen Wilhelmina within "God Zy Met Ons" ("God is with us"), surmounted by an Imperial crown, on correct ribbon. Housed in its hardshell blue case of issue with blue satin interior. Founded in 1892 by the queen regent, Emma of the Netherlands, the order was conferred during WWII on Dutch and foreign personnel who helped liberate the Netherlands and its colonies, and remains the country's most active civil and military decoration. Extremely fine condition.
