Description
Austria. Military Order of Maria Theresa, Commander's cross, circa 1922, by C.F. Rothe of Vienna, the order's official maker. Finely made in gold, silver and enamels, with a solid 18k gold suspension loop and a central cartouche in gold and enamel; the suspension arch marked "CFR" for Rothe and "925", with the silver hallmark of the 1922-1925 period. On its period ribbon. Weighs 29.1 grams. The cross measures 44 x 48.08 mm; 68 x 44 mm overall. Founded by Empress Maria Theresa in 1757, the order was the Habsburg monarchy's highest military honour, reserved for officers whose own initiative decided the course of an action. Of very fine manufacture with excellent enamels. Extremely fine condition.
