Description
Austria-Hungary, Empire. Royal Hungarian Order of St. Stephen, Grand Cross breast star, by C.F. Rothe of Vienna. Of multi-piece construction in silver and enamels, of very fine quality manufacture, with crisp enamels free of chips; the pin marked "C.F. Rothe Wien". Measures 86.5 mm. Founded by Empress Maria Theresa in 1764, the Order of St. Stephen was the premier civil order of the Habsburg monarchy, its Grand Cross reserved for the highest dignitaries of state. Extremely fine condition.
