Description
Egypt, Kingdom. Order of Ismail, Commander's cross, by J. Lattes of Cairo. An outstanding cross in 18k gold with superb enamel work: five blue-enamelled arms with hand-etched gold detailing and enamelled ball finials, a green and black enamelled laurel wreath encircling the blue centre, suspended from a gold crown finished in red and blue enamels. Well hallmarked to the reverse, suspension, loop and crown for 18k gold, with the stork mark for gold manufacture and the date letter "A" for 1925-26. On an old ribbon. Weighs 48 grams. Measures 60.3 x 82.5 mm including suspension and loop. Housed in its original case of issue, leather-bound and embossed in gold, the lid interior marked for J. Lattes, Cairo; the case in extremely fine condition. Instituted in 1915 by Sultan Hussein Kamel, the Order of Ismail was one of Egypt's senior orders. Near mint condition.
