Description
Russia, Imperial. A Model 1881 Dragoon sabre (shashka), the standardised cavalry pattern introduced under Tsar Alexander III. The dragoon model is distinguished from the Cossack pattern by its brass hilt with a single knuckle-bow guard and ribbed grip, mounting a curved, single-edged steel blade with a broad fuller running much of its length. Complete with its wood scabbard covered in leather with brass mounts and suspension fittings. The 1881 reform unified Russian edged weapons across the dragoon, Cossack, artillery and officer services, with the majority of examples produced at the Zlatoust Arms Factory in the Urals. Good condition.
