Description

Montenegro, Kingdom. Order of Danilo, I Class Grand Cross, by V. Mayer, Type II (18611918). An attractive badge in silver gilt comprising a blue-enamelled cross with red and white borders, the obverse centre with the gold crowned royal cypher of Danilo I within a Cyrillic surround, the reverse centre dated "1852/1853" in gold on red enamel within the order's motto, surmounted by a silver-gilt crown with characteristic elongated tassels; maker-marked "VM" for Vinc Mayer and hallmarked with Diana's head for Vienna manufacture and silver content. Lacking the sash and the gold crown suspension for the badge. Good condition.
